Student Pilot Licence SPL

The first licence. It lets you fly solo under an instructor's supervision, and nothing else.

Requirements

Minimum age

16 years on the date of application

Academic qualification

SSC in the Science group, or equivalent, plus demonstrated aptitude for a pilot

Class 2 Medical Assessment

ANO-1 names the class outright, where CAR 84 only pointed at its medical rules. A current Class 2 is also what renewal requires.

Validity

5 years from the date of issue

This changed. CAR 84 gave the SPL 12 months tied to the medical; ANO-1 gives it five years from issue, with renewal requiring a current Class 2 Medical Assessment.

Privileges

Pilot-in-command within Bangladesh only, always under the authority and supervision of a flight instructor or approved examiner, VFR only.

No passengers, animals or cargo, and never for hire or reward. No cross-country flight until you hold 10 hours of solo time — cross-country here means beyond 28 km (15 NM) from the departure aerodrome.

This is the first licence — there is nothing to hold before it.

Every figure above comes from ANO-1 — Air Navigation Order, Personnel Licensing (Gazetted 8 April 2024), and the examination format from the CAAB technical examination syllabus (Issue-1, 10 August 2005). ANO-1 replaced the Civil Aviation Rules 1984 as the basis for licensing in 2024 without changing any of these figures — what did change.
